 The Mentoring Spirit of the Teacher This one day seminar promotes the spirit of mentoring amongst all teachers and those involved with young people. MISSION STATEMENT Youth Empowerment Seminars (YES!) aim to affirm and encourage the spirit of mentoring so that mentees will be guided and encouraged to reach their potential in a safe and secure environment. OBJECTIVES: To promote the concept of the Teacher as a Mentor in the classes they teach, teams they coach, extracurricular activities they are involved in on a daily basis To affirm, inspire and motivate participants as Teacher-Mentors through their involvement in an experiential, interactive journey For participants to identify their mentoring qualities To acknowledge and affirm the influential role educators play in the lives of their students For participants to identify their teaching strengths and to consider ways of improving possible weaker areas through developing the spirit of mentoring For schools and education institutions to consider ways of implementing a Teacher-Mentor programme (where applicable) LEARNING OUTCOMES: Participants identify and acknowledge their unique gifts and talents, understanding their importance for the Teacher-Mentor journey Participants identify their Teacher-Mentor qualities and gain an appreciation of their influential role in education as positive Teacher-Mentors SEMINAR METHODS: The seminar includes a variety of training methods to ensure a fun, non-threatening, experiential, interactive experience that will suit all learning styles: An innovative visual presentation Brief lectures Motivation stories Full group discussions Breakout discussion groups Self-analysis reflective tasks Energizers A Resource Book: The Mentoring Spirit of the Teacher is included in the material given to all participants at the end of the seminar.
